Position 1 ( Bridge Inspector )

Location: Virginia Beach

REAL EC is a forward-thinking infrastructure and engineering firm dedicated to enhancing the built environment in the states of  Virginia, DC, Maryland and North Carolina . As we continue to grow and take on new challenges, we’re looking for a dedicated Bridge Inspector to join our team.

Position Overview:

The Bridge Inspector will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and longevity of our state’s bridges. This position will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections in line with construction standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting safety inspections of in-service bridges in compliance with NBIS and VDOT standards.
  • Collaborating with our laboratory team to analyze material samples.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed inspection reports, including findings and recommendations.
  • Regularly communicating with engineering teams to ensure the optimal execution of projects.
  • Traveling to various bridge locations throughout Virginia.
  • Keeping updated with new inspection techniques, technologies, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in civil engineering or related field is a plus.
  • Successful completion of the FHWA-approved NHI Course “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.”
  • Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical fitness to work in varying environments, including at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in bridge inspection or related fields would be advantageous, though not mandatory.

Position 2 ( Certified Welding Inspector )

Position Overview: The CWI Inspector will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and longevity proper executions of welding on projects. This position will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections in line with construction standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting safety inspections of in-service bridges in compliance with NBIS and VDOT standards.
  • Collaborating with our laboratory team to analyze material samples.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed inspection reports, including findings and recommendations.

Position 3 ( Roadway and Asphalt Inspector )

Location: Virginia Beach

Description

As a Construction Inspector you will use you highway construction experience to oversee construction quality and compliance. This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The qualifications and experience required are geared towards individuals with a proven track record in highway construction inspection.

Role accountabilities:

The primary responsibility is to inspect and ensure the quality of work on highway and roadway construction projects. This involves verifying that the completed work aligns with the project plans and specifications.
Coordinate with the contractor and various public utility agencies to ensure the smooth progress of the project. This likely includes communication and collaboration with different stakeholders involved in the project.
Assist in the negotiation and preparation of contract change orders, contract estimates, progress pay estimates, and other project-related documents and reports for managing the project and its finances.
Coordinate the sampling and testing of construction materials to monitor compliance with contract specifications. Ensuring that materials meet the required standards is crucial for project quality.
Monitor and track contractor progress and prepare regular reports, including daily, weekly, and monthly updates as needed. This helps keep all stakeholders informed about project status.

Qualifications & Experience:

Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in roadway and highway construction inspection, particularly related to VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) highway projects.
Specific VDOT certifications are required, such as those related to asphalt, paving, concrete, and other relevant areas. These certifications demonstrate expertise in the field.
Ability to read and interpret roadway and bridge plans and contract specifications is essential for understanding project requirements.

Position 4 ( Lab Technician )

Location: Virginia Beach

Description

Construction Materials Testing Field and Laboratory Technician

Positions available for Construction Materials Testing field and/or laboratory technicians to perform field and laboratory tests on soils and concrete. Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Position is full time with excellent benefits and paid vacation time.

Successful candidate will have the following qualities and experiences:

· Eye for detail

· Motivated self-starter

· Observe construction activities and documentwith photographs and notes

· Observe and classify soils

· Perform hand auger borings

· Sample, inspect and test soils, aggregates, and pavement(asphalt and concrete)

· Ability to utilize field and laboratory testingequipment

· Ability to read and understand constructiondrawings

· Prepare daily field reports to include sketchesas needed

· Communication skills for working with clients,owners, and peers

· Ability to routinely lift 40-100 lbs

· Ability to work outside and walk on unevenground

· Have a State issued Driver’s License

· Must be able to get access to Federalinstallations (with our sponsorship)

· High School diploma or equivalent preferred

· Ability to use Excel, Word and Adobe is a plus

· 2-5 years of experience as a Construction Materials Field Technician is a plus.
