Bridge Inspector
Position Overview:
The Bridge Inspector will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and longevity of our state’s bridges. This position will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections in line with construction standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting safety inspections of in-service bridges in compliance with NBIS and VDOT standards.
- Collaborating with our laboratory team to analyze material samples.
- Preparing and submitting detailed inspection reports, including findings and recommendations.
- Regularly communicating with engineering teams to ensure the optimal execution of projects.
- Traveling to various bridge locations throughout Virginia.
- Keeping updated with new inspection techniques, technologies, and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in civil engineering or related field is a plus.
- Successful completion of the FHWA-approved NHI Course “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.”
- Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical fitness to work in varying environments, including at heights and in confined spaces.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in bridge inspection or related fields would be advantageous, though not mandatory.
