Bridge Inspector

Position Overview:

The Bridge Inspector will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and longevity of our state’s bridges. This position will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections in line with construction standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting safety inspections of in-service bridges in compliance with NBIS and VDOT standards.
  • Collaborating with our laboratory team to analyze material samples.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed inspection reports, including findings and recommendations.
  • Regularly communicating with engineering teams to ensure the optimal execution of projects.
  • Traveling to various bridge locations throughout Virginia.
  • Keeping updated with new inspection techniques, technologies, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in civil engineering or related field is a plus.
  • Successful completion of the FHWA-approved NHI Course “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.”
  • Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical fitness to work in varying environments, including at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in bridge inspection or related fields would be advantageous, though not mandatory.
